In a recent NBC News poll, President Joe Biden demonstrates an interesting political phenomenon. While his approval rating stands at 41%, he garners 46% of the vote when pitted against former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 election scenario.

This intriguing result from the poll, unveiled on Sunday, suggests that even with Biden facing the highest disapproval rate of his tenure, he still manages to hold his ground against Trump. This indicates that some voters who may not necessarily approve of Biden’s performance still prefer him over Trump in a direct matchup.

The poll further reveals that only 37% of respondents approve of Biden’s economic management, and a mere 28% are content with the current economic state. Yet, when it comes to choosing between Biden and Trump, the two are neck and neck, each securing 46% of the votes from registered voters.

Biden’s ability to surpass his approval rating in this hypothetical election can be attributed to his appeal among younger voters, Latinos, Black voters, women, and independents.

However, when matched against other potential Republican candidates, the dynamics change. For instance, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley proves to be a formidable opponent for Biden. In a matchup against Haley, Biden’s vote percentage aligns with his approval rating, standing at 41%. Furthermore, his popularity among various demographic groups, such as men, women, white voters, Latino voters, and those with different educational backgrounds, closely mirrors his overall approval ratings with these segments.

If we genuinely want to assess Biden’s capability as president, we don’t need to speculate or make medical judgments. Instead, we can simply observe his actions and achievements in office. There’s no need to await the outcomes of Biden’s medical tests when we can witness the implementation of the American Rescue Plan, which bolstered the U.S. economy post-Covid; the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which created jobs following the Trump era’s “infrastructure week” jokes; the landmark gun safety legislation, the first in 30 years; the Chips and Sciences Act, spurring American manufacturing growth; the PACT Act, providing essential health care to veterans; the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act; and the addition of a record 13.5 million jobs, with unemployment rates at their lowest in half a century.

Simply put, Biden’s performance speaks for itself. He’s not just handling the responsibilities; he’s excelling, arguably outpacing many of his predecessors in recent American history.

It’s undeniable that concerns about Biden’s age are valid. He’s among the older leaders in our nation’s history. However, his accomplishments demonstrate his capability and commitment. Moreover, it’s essential to remember that elections present a choice between candidates. Currently, it appears the next election may feature Biden, at 80, against Trump, who will be 77. The focus should be on their track records and visions for the future, rather than just their ages.
