Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House, suggested that the Republican National Committee (RNC) should suspend the remaining GOP debates. This comes in light of the overwhelming likelihood of Donald Trump, the previous president, becoming the nominee once more.

On Thursday, following the recent Republican debate, Gingrich echoed the thoughts of a GOP pollster who believed the race had already been decided in Trump’s favor. The pollster opined, “The contest is essentially done. Donald Trump is the inevitable nominee. The ongoing debates serve little purpose and aren’t benefitting anyone.” Gingrich further shared this sentiment in a discussion, stating, “It’s either support for Trump or for Joe Biden’s reelection. I see no in-between.”

Viewership for the recent debate was significantly low, reportedly the least-watched GOP presidential debate since Trump’s first appearance on such a platform in 2015. Gingrich emphasized the RNC should acknowledge Trump’s inevitable nomination and collaborate with him.

The upcoming debate, planned for November 8 in Miami, might also not see Trump’s participation, consistent with his absence in the prior ones.

In a recent conversation, Trump himself advocated for an end to the debates. He expressed, “The debates should be halted. They aren’t fruitful for the GOP. I don’t see another contender emerging.”

Gingrich speculated that if another debate does transpire, it would likely garner minimal attention and only be of interest to the press. He underlined that Trump isn’t merely a candidate now but represents a broader national sentiment, different from a conventional candidacy.

Furthermore, Gingrich addressed rumors of a wealthy benefactor aiming to introduce Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin into the Republican presidential race. While Gingrich admires Youngkin’s leadership in Virginia and sees potential in him for future presidential bids, he believes 2023 isn’t Youngkin’s year.

In conclusion, Gingrich voiced concerns over the potential misuse of the Department of Justice against Trump. He stressed, “Trump is the expected nominee. The left’s legal maneuvers against him reveal their anxiety.” He believes Trump has a substantial chance of winning the general election, prompting adversaries to pull out all stops.
