Was Trump Right About The Border All Along?
Mace Faces Potential Primary Challenge Following Vote Against McCarthy Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) is under the spotlight for a potential primary challenge due to her decision to vote against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for the Speaker’s role.
Mace was among a select group of GOP representatives, with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) at the helm, who voted on Tuesday to dethrone McCarthy from his leadership position. While some votes were anticipated, Mace’s decision caught many off guard.
This move has sparked discussions about the repercussions she might face, especially concerning her 2024 re-election campaign.
Republican strategist Ron Bonjean remarked, “Given her vote that led to upheaval in the House, it wouldn’t be surprising if she faces a primary challenge.”
Former state Rep. Katie Arrington (R), who previously contested against Mace with Trump’s backing in 2022, has hinted at the possibility of another challenge. Speaking to The Hill, Arrington labeled Mace’s vote against McCarthy as a “publicity-seeking maneuver” and hinted at the possibility of her or others stepping up to challenge Mace.
However, some Republicans believe Mace’s position is secure. Since her election to the House in 2020, she has been steadily gaining national recognition and successfully fended off Arrington’s challenge in 2022, securing a victory margin of 8 points.
