71% Voters Says Biden Has Failed The Border, Do You?
Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.) remains steadfast in his decision to back Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for the position of Speaker, even though McCarthy has withdrawn his candidacy after being deposed earlier this month.
This unwavering support for McCarthy from Gimenez presents an additional hurdle for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), the nominated candidate from the Republican conference, in his quest to secure the Speaker’s role during the House vote. With the necessity for full attendance and participation, Jordan has a slim margin for dissent within his party, tolerating defections from no more than four Republicans.
Gimenez took to X, the platform formerly identified as Twitter, to voice his allegiance. “My support is firmly behind Republican @SpeakerMcCarthy, and my vote will reflect this on the House Floor. I categorically reject the notion of endorsing socialist Hakeem Jeffries, and any suggestion otherwise is not only false but a blatant lie,” asserted Gimenez.
In a string of messages, he continued, “In a shocking turn of events last week, a small group of eight colleagues sided with the socialist Democrats, orchestrating a coup against our legitimately elected Republican Speaker, Kevin McCarthy. This group initiated the chaos, and the entire Democratic faction supplied the firepower needed to overturn the preference of an overwhelming 96% of Congressional Republicans, who favored keeping Speaker McCarthy in his position. I refuse to engage in this reprehensible revolt. There was no justification for Speaker McCarthy’s removal in the first place,” he concluded.
