U.S. Troops on Standby for Potential Deployment in Israel’s Aid, According to Sources
In a recent development, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has reportedly put a specialized segment of American forces on standby for potential deployment, aiming to provide advisory and medical support to Israel amidst its ongoing conflict, as per various media sources.
This weekend saw the selection of approximately 2,000 troops, drawn from diverse branches of the U.S. military. These personnel, currently positioned within the Middle East and proximate areas in Europe, have been instructed to be on the ready. However, the specifics regarding the exact units or their potential deployment destinations remain undisclosed, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
It’s important to note, the Journal emphasizes, these troops are not anticipated to engage in direct combat operations, and no ground combat units have received deployment instructions at this stage.
This information aligns with a subsequent report from Fox News on Monday, confirming that Secretary Austin has indeed issued a “be ready to deploy” directive to a certain contingent of U.S. forces.
When approached for confirmation, Deputy Defense press secretary Sabrina Singh chose not to verify these reports during a press interaction on Monday.
“At this juncture, I don’t have additional information to offer,” she informed journalists gathered at the Pentagon. “There might be more details to share subsequently, but for the moment, there’s nothing further to specify.”
The conflict between Israel and Hamas, the governing authority in the Gaza Strip, has escalated dramatically, resulting in the loss of over 4,000 lives from both factions since the unexpected and intense offensive by Hamas against Israel on October 7.
