Liz Cheney Calls Trump A Dictator, Is She Right?
Nikki Haley, the former Ambassador to the U.N., is emerging as a formidable contender to Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis in the battle for the prime alternative to ex-President Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination, a recent poll indicates.
In the latest USA Today/Suffolk poll, Haley has captured the attention of 11 percent of probable Republican voters, trailing DeSantis by just a marginal 1.3 percent, who stands at 12.3 percent. Nonetheless, Trump continues to dominate with a substantial lead, securing nearly 58 percent preference.
These statistics are not favorable for DeSantis, who has generally held his position as the runner-up in the Republican primary surveys. Haley has seen a significant increase in her numbers, rising from her previous 4.49 percent in the same poll conducted in June. Conversely, the Governor of Florida has experienced a notable decline, plummeting from a previous 22.86 percent in June.
The campaigns of both GOP contenders have been actively clashing over foreign policy matters, particularly concerning the potential acceptance of refugees from Gaza by the U.S. DeSantis has criticized Haley for her alleged political correctness, leading to a rebuttal from Haley’s campaign accusing DeSantis of misrepresenting her position.
Additionally, the super PACs supporting both figures have launched attacks against each other. The pro-DeSantis group, Never Back Down PAC, recently aired an advertisement portraying Haley as overly accommodating to refugees. In response, the pro-Haley group, SFA PAC, highlighted reports of DeSantis’s waning donor support, dubbing it “DeSperation.”
Kristin Davison, a top executive at Never Back Down, criticized Haley for her purported inconsistency on various issues, contending that she “hasn’t had to justify her decisions.”
