Does America Still Need Trump?

Number of Migrants Heading to the United States Increases to 7,000

In the last 24 hours, the number of individuals in the migrant caravan moving towards the U.S. southern border has surged to over 7,000, which is nearly twice the initial estimate of 3,500. The group includes migrants from various countries such as Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Venezuela. Originating in southern Mexico, they began their journey towards the U.S. earlier this week. This comes at a crucial period when President Joe Biden is already under scrutiny for his immigration policies and the escalating number of unauthorized border crossings into the United States.

According to Mexican authorities in the state of Chiapas, approximately 3,500 migrants started their journey by foot from the city of Tapachula, situated close to the Guatemalan border and roughly 1,100 miles from the southern edge of the U.S. border. However, Irineo Mujica, one of the organizers of the caravan and a U.S. citizen, stated that the original group consisted of around 5,000 people and has since expanded to over 7,000 individuals.

As of Tuesday, the caravan paused in the municipality of Huehuetan, roughly 16 miles from their starting point in Tapachula. They were scheduled to arrive in Huixtla, located an additional 13 miles northward, by Wednesday, as per Mujica.

Speaking to the media, Mujica criticized the Biden administration for its handling of the situation. He claimed that the Latin American leaders were creating an immigration crisis intentionally to secure financial aid from the United States. Mujica further accused President Biden of falling short in reaching meaningful agreements with Latin American countries to regulate the migration flow.

“I’m astounded,” said Mujica in an interview. “Is American intelligence not aware that these countries are deliberately triggering a crisis so they can financially benefit from it?”
