Court Rejects Ivanka Trump’s Request to Postpone Testimony in New York Fraud Case

A decision by a New York appeals court has ruled against Ivanka Trump’s effort to defer her deposition in the fraud case involving her father, former President Donald Trump. The ruling was succinct, issued late on a Thursday, dismissing the motion for a stay of her testimony as the broader appeal is underway.

Ivanka Trump had raised concerns about the difficulty of appearing in court during a school week, suggesting it would be excessively burdensome. However, the court was unmoved by her plea.

The case in question is a significant one, with Attorney General Letitia James of New York accusing Donald Trump and his adult sons, along with their business operations, of manipulating property valuations for favorable tax and loan benefits.

While Ivanka Trump had been implicated in the initial stages of the lawsuit, her involvement was nullified earlier this year due to the statute of limitations, according to an appellate court decision. Despite this, her input is still being sought in the form of a deposition.

Her legal team argued that the summons for her testimony overstepped the bounds of Attorney General James’s authority. This stance, however, was not accepted by Judge Arthur Engoron, who is in charge of the trial, leading Ivanka to appeal to the higher court.

Her overall appeal has yet to reach a conclusion, but this recent judgment from the court clears the way for her testimony to go forward on November 8 as planned.

The Trump family’s participation is a focal point of the trial, with Ivanka’s siblings, Eric and Donald Jr., already having made their court appearances. Eric Trump is expected to continue his testimony, with the former president also scheduled to appear before the court in the following week. This trial has been a focal point of media coverage and continues to be closely watched as events unfold.
