Voters Want Biden To Step Aside In 2024, Do You?
Romney Believes a Democrat in 2024 Would Be Better Than Trump
Senator Mitt Romney, a Republican from Utah, recently expressed his willingness to support almost any candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, viewing them as a preferable alternative to a second term for former President Donald Trump. In a conversation with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell, Romney, who has decided not to run for reelection, mentioned his openness to backing many of the Republican contenders, with the exception of Vivek Ramaswamy. He also didn’t rule out the possibility of supporting certain Democratic candidates, suggesting that either option would be a better choice compared to Trump, and perhaps even current President Joe Biden.
Romney’s decision to step back from seeking another term in the Senate was met with derision from Trump and his supporters. Trump mockingly referred to Romney as “Pierre Delecto,” alluding to the pseudonym Romney once used on a private Twitter account. The senator, aged 76, attributed his retirement to a desire to pave the way for new leadership, emphasizing the importance of younger leaders shaping the future.
Throughout his tenure, Romney has been a prominent critic of Trump within the Republican Senate. He notably voted in favor of impeachment against Trump on two occasions, consistently highlighting the former president as a threat to the nation. This longstanding tension has led to speculation by Romney’s biographer that the senator might even endorse Joe Biden closer to the election. However, this remains conjecture, as Romney himself has not confirmed any such intentions.
