Trump Says He Didn’t Violate The 14th Amendment, You Agree?
Senior GOP Senators Criticize Biden’s Secretive Voter Drive Plans
A group of senior Republican senators, led by Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee, has expressed their frustration with the Biden administration regarding its efforts in voter mobilization. Despite repeated inquiries over six months, they claim the administration has not responded to their questions about Executive Order 14019, which focuses on enhancing voting access.
This order, issued on March 7, 2021, aims to overcome obstacles that predominantly affect voters of color, such as registration challenges, limited election information, and polling place access issues. It particularly notes the longer lines and greater difficulties these voters face, including restrictive ID laws and limited mail voting options.
The senators, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, argue that this directive should be subject to congressional oversight. They are concerned that federal agencies, traditionally nonpartisan, are being directed to engage in voter mobilization, which they believe could have partisan implications. Specifically, they are worried about the use of taxpayer funds for these efforts and potential violations of the Antideficiency Act, which forbids agencies from spending beyond what Congress has authorized.
In their letter, the lawmakers demand transparency and details on how federal agencies plan to execute the executive order. They also request copies of strategic plans submitted to the White House, a full accounting of federal funds used, and procedures established by Attorney General Merrick Garland for voter education and registration in federal institutions.
The senators emphasize the need for clarity and compliance with legal funding protocols, pointing out that misuse of funds could lead to administrative and criminal penalties. They express disappointment with the White House’s lack of disclosure despite their numerous requests.
