Should DeSantis Drop Out Of 2024 Run And Support Trump?
Key Member of Ramaswamy’s Team Joins Trump’s Election Effort
Brian Swensen, previously serving as the national political director for Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy, has transitioned to former President Donald Trump’s reelection team, reports The Messenger.
Swensen, aligning with Trump’s campaign, will collaborate closely with senior adviser Susie Wiles, an association rooted in their prior teamwork during Florida Senator Rick Scott’s gubernatorial run in 2010. This strategic move was confirmed by both Swensen and Tricia McLaughlin, Ramaswamy’s senior advisor. McLaughlin, speaking to The Hill, noted that Mike Biundo’s recent role as a national senior adviser for Ramaswamy had been gradually replacing Swensen’s responsibilities, rendering his departure less unexpected.
Ramaswamy, a 38-year-old tech entrepreneur and emerging Republican figure, announced his presidential candidacy in February. Despite gaining initial traction, he has faced challenges in sustaining momentum, particularly evident in his performance during the presidential primary debates where he sparred with Nikki Haley and Mike Pence, among others.
Currently, Ramaswamy’s support hovers around 5%, as per an average of national Republican polling by FiveThirtyEight. In contrast, Trump has surged to nearly 60% in the lead. Ramaswamy’s campaign has been scrutinized for his limited foreign policy experience and his controversial views on U.S. roles in Israel and Taiwan.
Swensen, set to start his advisory role with Trump’s campaign from Friday, is expected to bring a significant strategic advantage, with further details to be released by the campaign. His move coincides with Ramaswamy’s lagging behind other GOP contenders like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in early state polls.
