Congress to Cast Ballot on Formal Impeachment Inquiry Against Biden This Thursday

On Thursday, the Republican-majority House of Representatives is set to vote on launching an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, a Democrat. This development was shared by House Speaker Mike Johnson in a confidential session with Republican members. Representative Lisa McClain relayed this information to Reuters after leaving a meeting with Johnson in the Capitol.

The timing of the vote coincides with the day when the House members plan to leave for a substantial end-of-year break.

The basis of the impeachment inquiry by the House Republicans revolves around allegations against President Biden and his family. They are accused of benefiting improperly from decisions made by Biden during his tenure as Vice President under the Obama administration from 2009 to 2017.

Additionally, the Republicans have criticized the U.S. Department of Justice for alleged undue interference in an investigation related to Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, a businessman. The Justice Department, however, has denied any misconduct.

In a recent move, Republican Representative Kelly Armstrong introduced a detailed 14-page resolution to permit a full House vote on authorizing this investigation.

To date, the Republicans in the House have not been able to conclusively link Biden’s actions as Vice President to his son’s business activities. Given the Democratic majority in the Senate, it is doubtful that the Senate would convict Biden even if the House were to pass impeachment articles.

Representative Byron Donalds, a Republican involved in one of the three committees investigating Biden, mentioned on Fox News that he expects the inquiry to be completed in about two months, with the drafting of impeachment articles likely in the spring.
