Should Trump Pick A Female VP In 2024?

Results of the Biden Impeachment Vote

On Wednesday, House Republicans, in a vote of 221-212 strictly along party lines, formally initiated an impeachment inquiry against President Biden. This move is seen as an attempt by the GOP to add legal weight to their investigative efforts, which have been gaining momentum.

The inquiry’s focus is on Hunter Biden, the president’s son, who did not respond to a Republican subpoena for a deposition set for the same day. This lack of compliance was cited by Republican leaders as a key reason for the necessity of the formal vote.

The resolution formally recognizes the investigation into President Biden, which had informally started months ago. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) had hinted at various Republican probes into the president being part of an impeachment process, but this is the first official vote on the matter.

The formalization of the inquiry follows the White House’s challenge last month to the investigation’s constitutionality, citing the lack of a formal vote and referencing a legal opinion from the Trump administration.

Following the vote, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), a leading figure in the investigation, expressed his approval and urged the White House to comply.

President Biden, however, criticized the House Republicans’ actions as a “baseless political stunt,” focusing instead on major issues facing Americans and decrying the absence of bipartisan cooperation from the House Republicans.

The impeachment inquiry involves detailed examinations of the Biden family’s personal and business finances and the Justice Department’s investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax affairs.

Yet, evidence to support a contentious claim, initially put forward by former President Trump, that Joe Biden acted in Ukraine to benefit his son’s business interests while vice president, remains unverified. Comer, speaking on the House floor, labeled Hunter Biden’s business dealings as potentially corrupt and indicated plans to question various Biden family members and associates, despite what he views as obstructions from the White House.
