Americans Give Trump Bad News On Whitehouse Fight

The White House

A new poll suggests President Trump’s planned UFC event at the White House is generating mixed reactions from Americans, with many expressing skepticism about the unusual celebration scheduled to coincide with his 80th birthday.

The survey found that a majority of respondents disapprove of the event, known as “UFC Freedom 250,” which is set to take place on the South Lawn on June 14. According to the poll, 40 percent of Americans said they strongly oppose the event, while another 11 percent said they somewhat disapprove.

Opposition was strongest among Democratic voters, but independent voters also showed significant resistance. More than four in ten independents surveyed said they strongly disapprove of the White House hosting a UFC spectacle, while an additional group said they somewhat oppose it.

Republicans largely viewed the event more favorably, with most GOP respondents saying they either strongly approve or somewhat approve of the planned celebration.

Trump first announced the event last year and has continued promoting it as preparations move forward. Construction crews began assembling infrastructure for the event in recent weeks, transforming part of the White House grounds into a venue capable of hosting thousands of spectators.

The president has repeatedly praised the project, describing it as a unique attraction tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. He has even floated the idea of keeping parts of the structure in place after the event concludes.

Speaking earlier this week, Trump compared the installation to iconic international landmarks that were initially intended to be temporary.

“We’re building something in front of the White House that a lot of people find very attractive,” Trump said. “It’s going to host the big UFC fight on June 14, and maybe we’ll never take it down.”

The proposal has sparked debate online, with supporters viewing it as an innovative way to celebrate America’s milestone anniversary and critics arguing that the White House should not be used as a venue for a high-profile sporting spectacle.

The poll also arrives as Trump continues highlighting other projects around Washington, including renovations to the National Mall’s Reflecting Pool and construction of a new White House ballroom. Those initiatives have similarly drawn praise from supporters and criticism from opponents who question whether they should be priorities at a time when many Americans remain concerned about the economy and rising living costs.

With the UFC event now just days away, it is likely to remain a flashpoint in the broader debate over Trump’s vision for the White House and the nation’s 250th birthday celebrations.
