President Donald Trump says he plans to deliver an extended speech during the nation’s 250th Independence Day celebration in Washington despite forecasts calling for extreme heat.

Speaking Wednesday at the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, Trump joked that he intends to prove he can handle the conditions.

“By the way, on July 4th, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m going to go, and I’m going to make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything,” Trump said.

The president is scheduled to headline Saturday night’s “Salute to America 250 Celebration & Fireworks” on the National Mall. Festivities begin at 7 p.m., with Trump’s remarks expected around 9:45 p.m. EDT. The event is being organized by Freedom 250, the Trump administration-backed group overseeing the Great American State Fair and the anniversary celebrations.

Trump has promoted the event as “the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all,” promising military flyovers, air shows featuring U.S. service members, and what he described as the largest fireworks display ever held in the nation’s capital.

While Freedom 250’s schedule lists fireworks beginning at 10:30 p.m., Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has said the display is expected to start at 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high temperature near 107 degrees in Washington on Saturday, with dangerous heat expected throughout the day. Temperatures are projected to ease into the upper 80s by the time Trump takes the stage, though forecasters warn high humidity could keep conditions feeling significantly hotter. If the forecast holds, the heat could surpass the city’s previous Fourth of July record high of 100 degrees, set in 1919.
