Trump Name To Be Added To Another Landmark

Federal officials are moving forward with plans that could rename New York City’s Penn Station, reviving an idea President Trump has previously floated about placing his name on the nation’s busiest rail hub.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently sent a letter to three Senate committees describing the effort as an “administration priority,” according to multiple reports. While the letter did not specify a new name for the station, it fueled speculation that the administration is considering naming it after Trump.

The proposal comes as the administration continues pushing a major overhaul of Penn Station, which serves roughly 600,000 passengers each day. Long criticized for its confusing layout, aging infrastructure and overcrowded conditions, the transit hub is scheduled to undergo a major redevelopment project beginning in 2027. Current plans include redesigned platforms, expanded retail space, improved passenger flow and upgraded facilities, while Madison Square Garden is expected to remain in place.

The possibility of renaming the station follows reports earlier this year that Trump privately told lawmakers federal funding for the long-awaited rail tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey could depend on renaming Penn Station in his honor. NBC News reported in February that the proposal surfaced during discussions over the project’s financing.

The idea has drawn immediate backlash from New York Democrats. Rep. Jerry Nadler, whose district includes Penn Station, accused the administration of attempting a “hostile takeover” of the landmark and criticized what he described as Trump’s desire to have the station renamed after himself.

“After months of hiding from the public, Sean Duffy has confirmed that the Trump administration is waging a hostile takeover of Penn Station, including delivering Trump his dream of renaming Penn Station after himself,” Nadler wrote on social media.

Nadler also said he strongly opposes the proposal and renewed calls for the administration to provide more information about the station’s redevelopment plans and the federal funding attached to the project.
