Responding to the diary’s claims, White House spokesman Davis Ingle sharply criticized Obama, saying the former president “will go down as one of the most dishonest, divisive, and destructive Presidents in history.”

Newly released diary entries from Dr. Anthony Fauci claim former President Barack Obama privately lashed out at President Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr. during the COVID-19 pandemic, using profanity while criticizing both men.

The diary entries, part of more than 1,000 pages released by Sen. Rand Paul, describe a phone conversation in November 2021 between Fauci and Obama. According to Fauci, the former president called to express support as Fauci faced intense criticism from Republicans over his handling of the pandemic.

Fauci wrote that he told Obama about attacks from Trump supporters, including merchandise sold by Donald Trump Jr. featuring the slogan “Fauci Kills Puppies.” The phrase stemmed from allegations that Fauci’s agency funded research involving beagle puppies in laboratory experiments.

According to Fauci’s account, Obama responded by calling Donald Trump Jr. “a f****** moron” before apologizing for his language. Fauci also claimed Obama described President Trump as a “hopeless idiot” and a “pathologic liar.”

The controversy over the “Fauci Kills Puppies” slogan was tied to a study funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases involving research on sand flies and beagle puppies. The medical journal that published the study later issued a correction in October 2021.

Fauci led the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 until 2022 and remained one of the most prominent public health officials during the pandemic.

In his diary, Fauci also wrote that Obama expressed frustration that moderate Republicans were not publicly defending him against what the former president viewed as false and damaging attacks. Fauci described the roughly 25-minute conversation as memorable and said Obama offered to stay in touch if circumstances changed.
