Trump Iran Call Leaks
President Donald Trump said Monday that any agreement with Iran should include a requirement for several additional countries, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, to join the Abraham Accords, the U.S.-brokered agreements aimed at normalizing relations with Israel that were forged during Trump’s first term. In a social media post, Trump said negotiations are “proceeding nicely” but tied any eventual agreement to expanded participation in the agreements first signed in 2020.

Automatic registration for the U.S. military draft is set to begin in December,
marking a major shift in how the system operates. Under the new policy, eligible men will no longer need to sign up themselves; instead, they will be automatically added to the database maintained by the Selective Service System within 30 days of turning 18. The change stems from a provision included in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, which aims to simplify the process and reduce administrative costs by using existing federal data. While most men between ages 18 and 25 are already legally required to register, this update shifts the responsibility from individuals to the government, a move supported by Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth, who have both backed efforts to strengthen military readiness. The proposal is currently under review by the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs and awaits final approval. The United States has not used a military draft since the Vietnam War, though the system was reinstated in 1980 by Jimmy Carter to prepare for potential national emergencies. Recent global tensions, including concerns surrounding Iran, have sparked renewed public discussion about whether a draft could return, though officials say it is not currently planned. Importantly, any reinstatement of an active draft would still require congressional approval, as the president cannot authorize it alone. Failing to register—whether manually or through compliance with the system—can carry serious penalties, including fines, potential jail time, and loss of access to certain federal benefits, employment opportunities, and even citizenship eligibility for immigrants. Notably, the policy still applies only to men, as efforts to include women in the draft have repeatedly been removed from recent legislation.
Stimulus Checks Update
The Supreme Court has struck down a central part of President Donald Trump’s tariff policy, dealing a significant setback to a proposal that would have used tariff revenue to send “tariff dividend” checks to American families. Financial experts say the idea of distributing those payments was already unlikely because the White House cannot issue nationwide stimulus checks without approval from Congress. Any large payment program would require legislation passed by lawmakers, which analysts say would be difficult given the current political divisions in Washington.
Despite the ruling, there is still speculation that Trump could explore alternative ways to move forward with the concept. Some observers believe the administration may attempt to redirect tariff-related funds or pursue other executive actions to deliver some form of financial relief, though legal experts say such a move would likely face immediate challenges in court. For now, the Supreme Court’s decision significantly weakens the path toward tariff-funded stimulus checks, even as the president has suggested he may continue looking for ways to send money back to Americans.
Trump Popularity
A new survey shows President Donald Trump experiencing a slight decline in public support among registered voters compared with last year.
According to an NBC News poll, 44 percent of respondents said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” approve of Trump’s job performance, down three percentage points from 47 percent in March 2025. Meanwhile, 54 percent said they disapprove, up from 51 percent in the previous survey.
The president has faced political challenges in recent months, including criticism surrounding immigration policies, questions about his administration’s handling of records connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and a series of strong Democratic election results last year.
A separate polling average compiled by Decision Desk HQ places Trump’s approval rating at 43.1 percent, with 54.4 percent disapproving of his performance.
How Trump’s Approval Compares to Other Modern Presidents
While Trump’s current numbers remain politically significant as the country approaches the midterm elections, they fall below the historical averages seen by several modern presidents during their time in office.
For comparison:
- Ronald Reagan averaged roughly 52 percent approval during his presidency.
- Bill Clinton maintained one of the strongest averages among recent presidents, around 55 percent.
- George W. Bush averaged close to 49 percent approval across his two terms.
- Barack Obama averaged about 47–48 percent approval during his presidency.
- Joe Biden spent much of the later part of his presidency with approval ratings in the low-40 percent range, similar to where Trump is currently polling.
While presidential approval ratings fluctuate widely depending on economic conditions, major policy decisions, and international events, political analysts often view the mid-40 percent range as a challenging position for an incumbent party heading into congressional elections.
Mixed Views on Key Issues
The NBC News poll also examined how voters view Trump’s handling of several major policy areas.
- Border security: 53 percent approval
- Immigration policy: 44 percent approval
- Handling of the Iran conflict: 41 percent approval
The results show stronger support for the administration’s border security efforts than for its broader immigration agenda or foreign policy decisions.
Midterm Concerns Already Emerging
Earlier this year, Trump acknowledged that the party controlling the White House historically struggles in midterm elections. Speaking with conservative talk show host Will Cain, the president noted that both Republican and Democratic administrations often lose seats in Congress during midterms.
“Presidents, whether it’s Republican or Democrat, when they win, it doesn’t make any difference. They seem to lose the midterms,” Trump said during the interview.
He added that his administration hopes to break that pattern.
“Hopefully we’re going to change that around. We’re doing great,” he said.
About the Poll
The NBC News survey was conducted between Feb. 27 and March 3 and included 1,000 registered voters nationwide. The poll carries a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points.
With economic concerns, immigration debates, and foreign policy challenges dominating headlines, analysts say the president’s approval numbers could continue to shift as the political environment evolves in the months leading up to the next election cycle.
