Did President Biden Legitimately Win 2020 Election?

A recent poll by the Washington Post and University of Maryland has shown a notable decline in the number of Republicans who believe former President Trump played a significant role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol events. Conducted almost three years after the incident, this survey indicates a changing attitude among American citizens regarding Trump’s involvement.

This survey’s findings were compared to those from a similar poll in December 2021. Currently, just over half of the American adult population attributes substantial responsibility to Trump for the Capitol attack, a drop from 60 percent in the 2021 poll. This shift is especially evident among Republican respondents, where only 14 percent now hold Trump responsible, a decrease from 27 percent in the earlier survey. There is also a slight drop in Democratic respondents holding Trump accountable, from 92 percent to 86 percent.

The perspective of Independent voters has largely remained consistent, with about 56 percent still attributing considerable blame to Trump, only a slight decrease from 57 percent in the previous year.

This change in public opinion is occurring amidst Trump facing significant legal issues. He is currently confronting two criminal indictments: one related to the January 6 riots by special counsel Jack Smith, and another in Georgia under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Despite these legal battles, Trump continues to be a key figure in the Republican party, leading in the polls for the 2024 presidential primary among GOP supporters.

With the political scene continuously evolving, the upcoming Iowa caucuses on January 15 are set to be a crucial event in the presidential campaign. This primary will offer deeper insight into the current political climate and the potential influence of ongoing developments on the presidential race.
