Christie Refuses to Pardon Unremorseful Trump, Suggests Jail Instead

Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie stated that he would not grant a pardon to ex-President Trump if he were to win the 2024 election and Trump were found guilty of any crime.

During an interview on “The View”, when asked by co-host Joy Behar about his stance on pardoning Trump – a position taken by fellow GOP candidates Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis – Christie firmly rejected the idea.

His emphatic “no” came even before Behar completed her question.

Drawing from his tenure as New Jersey’s governor, Christie explained the principles behind issuing pardons. He emphasized the necessity for individuals to acknowledge their wrongdoing, questioning Trump’s capacity to do so.

Christie highlighted the straightforward nature of such a pardon decision as president, underlining the importance of responsibility acceptance. He made it clear that those failing to take responsibility, like Trump in his view, should face imprisonment.

Trump, who currently leads the Republican field for the 2024 presidential nomination, is facing serious legal challenges, including four criminal indictments encompassing 91 charges. Two of these cases, brought by special counsel Jack Smith, involve Trump’s attempts to remain in power post the 2020 election loss and his retention of sensitive government documents against subpoena orders.

Christie has previously expressed his skepticism about granting Trump a pardon, especially in the government documents case. In a July interview with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo, Christie insisted that if the allegations in the indictment were proven true and Trump received a fair trial and was found guilty, he would struggle to consider a pardon.

Christie’s recent remarks follow his criticism of other candidates in the race, accusing them of not being truthful about Trump.
