Clinton and Biden Ranked Better Presidents Than Trump, Do You Agree?
Experts in Presidential History Place Biden 14th in Rankings, with Trump at the Bottom
In a recent evaluation conducted by a group of scholars specializing in the study of U.S. presidencies, President Joe Biden was positioned as the 14th most effective president in American history. This study, however, placed former President Donald Trump at the bottom of the list, sparking discussions on the criteria and perspectives employed in such assessments.
The survey, known as the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey, was carried out towards the end of the year and engaged members from the Presidents and Executive Politics Section of the American Political Science Association, a leading body of scholars in the domain of presidential studies.
Abraham Lincoln was acknowledged as the foremost leader in U.S. history according to this survey.
Joe Biden was ranked higher than notable figures such as Ulysses S. Grant, Ronald Reagan, and Woodrow Wilson. Former President Barack Obama was placed at the 7th position, marking a significant rise from his rank in the previous survey.
Donald Trump was ranked 45th, positioning him lower than James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Franklin Pierce, and William Henry Harrison.
The survey also examined the influence of ideological and partisan leanings among the participants. The results indicated that such differences did not substantially impact the overall rankings of the presidents. Nonetheless, a distinct partisan divide was evident in the ratings of Obama and Biden. Respondents identifying as Democrats placed them significantly higher (sixth and 13th, respectively) compared to Republicans, who ranked them at 15th and 30th, respectively.
This division highlights the subjective nature of such rankings and suggests that political affiliations may influence perceptions of presidential effectiveness, underscoring the need for a balanced and comprehensive approach in evaluating the legacy and impact of U.S. presidents.
