FIFA Says Trump Will Participate in World Cup Final Trophy Presentation Alongside Gianni Infantino
FIFA has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to take part in the trophy presentation ceremony at the 2026 World Cup final, placing him on the global stage during one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.
According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump will be present at the final match scheduled for July 19 at the New York–New Jersey Stadium, where he will join the trophy presentation ceremony alongside FIFA officials. Infantino made the remarks during a televised appearance on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, describing a joint presentation of the championship trophy to the winning team.
Infantino has developed a close working relationship with Trump in recent years, including awarding him FIFA’s inaugural Peace Prize in December, further highlighting the political and sporting ties between the two figures as major international tournaments unfold in the United States.
FIFA later stated it had no additional comment beyond Infantino’s public remarks.
The announcement follows previous appearances by Trump at major sporting events, including the Club World Cup final, where he presented trophies to Chelsea FC at the same East Rutherford, New Jersey venue. That appearance drew mixed reactions from fans and players, as he briefly joined the team during their celebration.
Trump has also been a visible presence at several high-profile sporting events across the country, including the U.S. Open tennis final, Ryder Cup golf tournament, and NBA Finals games in the New York metropolitan area.
The 2026 World Cup is being hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the New York–New Jersey stadium serving as the site for the championship final among multiple tournament matches held in the region.
The confirmation ensures that Trump will once again appear on the international sports stage during a globally televised moment, underscoring the intersection of politics, celebrity, and major sporting events.
