Trump Picks New White House Press Secretary
President Donald Trump has offered Katie Zacharia the job of White House press secretary, bringing a conservative media figure with experience in government communications into consideration for one of the administration’s most visible positions.
A White House official confirmed the offer. News of the potential appointment was reported Friday, October 9, though the announcement would place Zacharia in a role previously held by Karoline Leavitt.
Leavitt, a longtime Trump ally, departed the administration earlier this year following the birth of her second child. She later joined Fox News as a commentator.
Zacharia brings experience from both the federal government and Trump’s media operation. She previously served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, where her work involved communicating the agency’s positions and activities to the public.
More recently, she worked as a senior communications adviser for Trump Media and Technology Group, the company behind Truth Social, Trump’s social media platform.
The press secretary position puts its holder at the center of the administration’s relationship with reporters and the public. The job typically involves briefing journalists, responding to questions about presidential decisions and explaining the White House’s positions on major developments.
The potential appointment would bring another figure from Trump’s broader political and media network into a prominent administration role. Zacharia’s background in government messaging and conservative commentary could shape how she approaches the position if she formally takes over.
The offer follows Leavitt’s departure and comes as the White House considers who will serve as its primary public spokesperson going forward.
