Trump Promises Major Election Announcement During Thursday Night Address
President Donald Trump is signaling that his upcoming primetime speech on Thursday will include what he described as a major announcement focused on elections, voting machines, and election integrity. Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Trump said the address would cover those issues along with additional topics he believes are significant for the country.
“It will concern that subject and we’ll have a couple of other things to say also,” Trump said when asked about the focus of his remarks. He added that the announcement would be “really big news,” saying the nation must address concerns surrounding elections because, in his view, “without free and fair elections, you don’t have a country.”
Trump said the speech would include more than just election-related issues but emphasized that the announcement would be a major moment. Reports indicated that the address is expected to highlight recently declassified intelligence involving past election investigations and what the administration describes as potential weaknesses in voting systems.
The president has continued to raise concerns about election security, including his long-standing claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to former President Joe Biden. Trump has recently renewed those arguments while urging Senate Republicans to support the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a proposal that would require proof of citizenship and identification requirements for voter registration and ballot access.
Election rules and voter data have also remained a focus for the administration. Last month, Postmaster General David Steiner confirmed that the U.S. Postal Service would not deliver certain mail-in ballots in states that decline to provide requested voter information to the federal government, a policy that aligns with a proposal previously discussed by the Trump administration.
The issue comes as states continue to debate election procedures, voter identification requirements, and mail-in ballot policies. A recent Supreme Court ruling also addressed election deadlines, allowing states to accept certain ballots received after Election Day under specific circumstances.
