Secret Service Scandal Rocks Trump

Three U.S. Secret Service officials have been placed on administrative leave while the agency investigates possible misconduct, adding another layer of scrutiny to the federal agency responsible for protecting President Donald Trump and other senior government officials.

A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting the investigation. The officials involved are all non-law-enforcement personnel, and authorities have not disclosed what specific conduct prompted the investigation.

The agency emphasized that it expects its employees to maintain strict standards of professionalism, integrity and accountability.

“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” the agency said, stressing that its mission of protecting the president and other officials requires employees to demonstrate “duty, honesty, and courage.”

The latest investigation comes just weeks after another Secret Service employee assigned to Vice President JD Vance was placed on administrative leave over allegations that sensitive information had been leaked.

That incident followed reports of frustration among members of Vance’s security detail over last-minute travel arrangements and assignments involving the vice president and his family.

The Secret Service has faced increased scrutiny during Trump’s presidency following multiple security threats and assassination plots involving the president.

The agency was also involved in a highly unusual security operation during Trump’s departure from Turkey last month. Amid concerns over a potential Iranian threat, Trump was secretly moved from the traditional Air Force One aircraft to another plane.

Some members of the president’s staff and members of the traveling press corps remained aboard the original aircraft and were reportedly unaware of the security operation at the time.

The incident raised questions about how the president’s security decisions were being handled during overseas travel, particularly as tensions involving Iran remained high.

The Secret Service’s responsibilities leave little room for error, making any investigation involving its personnel significant. The agency has repeatedly stressed that protecting the president is a “zero-fail mission,” meaning questions about employee conduct can quickly become matters of national security.

For the moment, the three officials will remain on administrative leave while the internal investigation continues. No additional details about possible disciplinary action or the findings of the investigation have been released.
