SMACKDOWN: AZ Sec. of State Loses This Power After Criticizing Election Audit
Tuesday, May 25th will go down as a bad day for Katie Hobbs, Arizona Secretary of State.
Earlier this month, Ms. Hobbs expressed “grave concerns” about Arizona’s audit of the 2020 election. She penned an article for azfamily.com, where she labeled the entire audit “a political stunt.” And said that it is “dangerous to people’s safety and to the integrity of our democracy.”
Excuse me? How is wanting to know if your elections were fair and honest a danger to people’s safety and to the integrity of our republic (not democracy)?
If that wasn’t enough, she took to social media to express her thanks to political allies.
The GOP-led House Appropriations Committee didn’t agree that Ms. Hobbs was “doing it right.” So they responded with swift and decisive action.
The committee voted to strip her of her powers to litigate election lawsuits. This duty will be transferred exclusively to state Attorney General Mark Brnovich through the end of the 2023 fiscal year.
As you would expect, Democrats didn’t like the move. State Rep. Randy Friese called the move “disturbing,” “troubling,” and “quite nefarious.” Elvia Diaz wrote on azcentral.com that “it can’t be just a coincidence” that Republicans are “blocking a vocal critic of the audit.”
This hasn’t been the first run-in between the House GOP and Ms. Hobbs. In 2019, the Appropriations Committee took away her oversight of the Capitol Museum. This was in response to when she flew a gay pride flag from the building’s balcony.
It’s good to see Republicans with the guts to make right decisions. The Secretary of State should want to know if their state’s election machines and process are fair and honest. And it’s obvious that Ms. Hobbs is a liberal partisan hack, and doesn’t care about the integrity of elections in Arizona.
Time will tell how the Arizona election audit turns out, and if there’s any remedy for the questionable voting machines and overnight vote counting. But it’s good to know some of our leaders have the courage to stand up and do what’s right. Let’s support as many of these elected officials as possible.
