SHOCKING: FBI Demands To Know Who Read A News Article
The FBI requested data from USA Today. They want to know the IP addresses and telephone numbers of anyone who read a news article between 8:03 PM and 8:38 PM. They haven’t said why they want or need the information.
The news article in question was about a shootout that occurred around 6 AM during a child pornography raid. David Huber, 55, began shooting at agents that came to search his home. Three FBI agents were wounded and two agents were killed, Daniel Alfin and Laura Schwartzenberger. Huber then took his own life.
USA Today is fighting back, saying the order violates the First Amendment.
‘A government demand for records that would identify specific individuals who read specific expressive materials, like the Subpoena at issue here, invades the First Amendment rights of both publisher and reader, and must be quashed accordingly,’ lawyers for Gannett, the company that owns USA Today, said.
They added said the subpoena’s vague reference to ‘a federal criminal investigation’ cannot ‘possibly justify such an abridgment of free speech.’
The FBI has not commented on the subpoena or on what grounds it should have the information.

It’s very concerning that the FBI would want to know who is reading what news. The original shootout occurred at 6 AM, but they wanted information on who was reading the article hours later.
If they need the information for an investigation, more information must be released as to why. Americans have rights and we shouldn’t be scared we will be targeted for the news we choose to read.
