Do You Want Trump To Become Speaker Of The House?

On Tuesday, Republican Kari Lake took the initial steps to contest the Senate seat currently held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I) in Arizona, hinting at a possible tripartite contest in this pivotal swing state.

Lake, who once vied for the position of Arizona’s governor, established her Senate campaign committee with the Federal Elections Commission, a move that came a week before her anticipated campaign inauguration.

Last year, Lake, a former television news anchor, was defeated by the current Governor Katie Hobbs (D). She gained notoriety as a candidate aligned with Trump and was one of the most visible figures in the party to question the election’s legitimacy. To date, Lake hasn’t acknowledged the outcomes of the 2022 gubernatorial race.

Although some surveys suggest Lake might have an edge over other Republicans in a potential primary, her chances in the general election in November might be more testing.

Pinal County’s Sheriff, Mark Lamb (R), has already declared his intention to run for Sinema’s position. Meanwhile, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) is pursuing the Democratic nomination. Blake Masters, a former Senate candidate from Arizona, is rumored to be considering a bid, though no official statement has been made.

Adding to the race’s unpredictability are Sinema’s intentions. She switched her party allegiance from Democrat to Independent in the latter part of the previous year. While there are indications that Sinema is preparing for a reelection campaign, she hasn’t made an official announcement.

Should Sinema decide to run, it remains to be seen how she’ll fare in a general election and whether her candidacy might siphon votes from either the Republican or Democratic sides.
