Gas Prices Hit High, Is Biden Responsible?

McCarthy is fully committed to border issues, making a second attempt with a GOP-exclusive interim funding proposal. This week, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is pushing for a short-term funding extension combined with numerous border policy adjustments.

Facing a rival provisional funding resolution introduced in the Senate on Tuesday and an impending Saturday government closure, McCarthy is in a race against time.

The Speaker is striving to unite his divided party members around his interim funding plan. He aims to present the funding dilemma as a decision for President Biden, portraying his staunch critics as aligning with the president on border matters.

McCarthy commented on Tuesday, “To prevent a government shutdown, the president should take action on the border.”

He plans to present the GOP’s funding proposal for discussion “likely” by Friday. This tight schedule provides only a day for discussions with the Senate and the Presidential office before the shutdown cut-off.

Regardless of the anticipated votes, McCarthy confirmed he would introduce the bill for debate. This move acknowledges the difficulties he encounters in rallying his party members for a provisional solution. Last week, due to a few dissenters, a similar plan was withdrawn. Some remain firm in their stance against any resolution to maintain government operations.

Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) expressed, “Regardless of its content, a provisional funding resolution represents a continuation of Nancy Pelosi’s expenditure and aligns with Joe Biden’s strategies. I’ve opposed such measures for the past two years. I won’t suddenly support them now.”
