GOP Poll Spells Trouble For Trump

President Trump’s approval rating has fallen to its lowest level in recent Quinnipiac University polling, with new results showing signs of softer support among Republican voters as the conflict with Iran and economic concerns continue to dominate public attention.

According to the survey released Wednesday, 32 percent of registered voters approve of Trump’s job performance, while 58 percent disapprove. Another 10 percent said they had no opinion. The poll marks the president’s lowest approval rating recorded by Quinnipiac during his second term. A separate CNN poll conducted during the same period found Trump’s approval rating at 34 percent.

The survey also showed a decline in support among Republicans. Seventy-six percent of GOP respondents said they approve of Trump’s job performance, down from 85 percent in Quinnipiac’s June survey. The White House had not commented on the poll results.

The ongoing conflict with Iran appeared to weigh heavily on respondents. Many cited concerns about rising energy prices, continued fighting in the region, and the growing number of U.S. military casualties, with 18 American service members reported killed since the conflict began.

More than half of those surveyed, 54 percent, said they do not believe the United States is winning the war, while 36 percent said the country is winning and 11 percent expressed no opinion.

The poll also found that 66 percent of respondents believe the conflict has not been worth the costs. Political views remained sharply divided, with 93 percent of Democrats and 73 percent of independents saying the war has not been worth fighting. Among Republicans, 67 percent said they believe the military campaign has been worth the consequences.

The Quinnipiac University survey was conducted July 23-27 among 963 registered voters nationwide and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
