Hillary Clinton Says Trump Destroyed American Values During His Presidency, You Agree?
Karen Pence: Trump Has Distanced Himself from Conservative Principles
Karen Pence, wife of the former Vice President, recently expressed concerns about ex-President Trump distancing himself from the conservative principles he championed during his 2016 campaign and subsequent presidency.
Speaking on “CBS Mornings,” Mrs. Pence highlighted that while the Trump administration, which included her husband, Mike Pence, had governed with conservative ideals, Trump’s recent comments suggest a deviation from those principles. “You can notice the shift in many of his recent statements,” she remarked, hinting that such a change drove her husband to present himself as a staunch conservative. However, she did not pinpoint the exact remarks from Trump she was alluding to.
Tony Dokoupil, the co-host, pointed out recent CBS polls revealing that while many Republican voters in Iowa and New Hampshire support Trump, they don’t view him as a genuine conservative. Mrs. Pence asserted that if people paid closer attention to Trump’s current words, they’d see the disparity from his past statements. Her goal, along with her husband’s, is to make people more cognizant of this change. “We aim to highlight this during tonight’s debate, ensuring Mike conveys his message,” she commented, referring to her TV appearance.
Mike Pence is among seven contenders in the upcoming GOP presidential debate in Simi Valley, Calif. Trump, leading the GOP race, has opted out of this debate for the second time, choosing to engage with Michigan autoworkers instead. Recent polls position the former vice president around fourth or fifth place among the candidates.
In the conversation, Karen Pence insinuated reservations about Trump’s potential return to the presidency if Mike Pence isn’t the nominee. “Anyone who places themselves above the Constitution shouldn’t lead the nation,” she stated.
Throughout Trump’s term, he and Mike Pence were known allies. Yet, disagreements arose, especially surrounding the events of Jan. 6, 2021. Trump’s attempt to influence Mike Pence to reject the 2020 election results, an act Pence believes would breach his Constitutional oath, became a major contention. Pence has openly disagreed with Trump’s stance on prioritizing personal interests over the Constitution.
