Hillary Mocks Trump Over What?

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mocked reports Thursday claiming officials within the Trump administration explored the idea of placing President Donald Trump on a new $250 bill.

According to a report from The Washington Post, officials connected to the administration allegedly encouraged the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to begin developing prototype designs for a high-value currency note featuring Trump’s portrait.

The outlet cited current and former employees who said Treasury Department political appointees pushed for discussions surrounding the concept beginning last year.

Clinton, who faced Trump in the 2016 presidential election, reacted to the report with sarcasm in a post on X, tying the rumored currency plan to concerns about rising living costs and inflation.

In her social media message, Clinton joked that by the end of Trump’s presidency, a $250 bill might only be enough to purchase basic household items like gasoline and eggs.

The White House has not officially confirmed whether any formal proposal exists for a Trump-themed $250 bill. Requests for comment regarding both the report and Clinton’s criticism have reportedly been directed to administration officials.

The discussion comes months after the Treasury Department announced plans to place Trump’s signature on commemorative U.S. currency as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent previously praised the idea, describing it as a way to honor both the country’s history and Trump’s leadership during the semiquincentennial celebration.

If created, a $250 bill would represent a dramatic expansion of modern U.S. paper currency denominations and would likely spark both political and economic debate over its practicality and symbolism.

The renewed exchange between Trump and Clinton also highlights how tensions between the longtime political rivals continue to surface nearly a decade after their highly contentious 2016 election battle.
