Georgia state lawmaker, Colton Moore, who called for a dedicated legislative session to probe Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, faced suspension from the GOP caucus of the chamber on Thursday.
“While the vast majority of Republican State Senators, alongside the Governor, Lt. Governor, House Speaker, and the Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party have expressed that a Special Session addressing the Fulton County District Attorney is not feasible, we acknowledge Senator Moore’s entitlement to his viewpoint,” read a statement from the Georgia Senate Republicans on X, previously recognized as Twitter.
“Yet, Senator Moore, in pushing his proposal, appears to have shared misleading information to Georgians and beyond, instigating undue strife and animosity. This has placed his fellow Caucus members and their families under potential threats,” the statement further added.
Previously, Moore had sought a special session to investigate Willis, following the indictment of the former President Trump on charges pertaining to efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.
Moore had expressed to The Hill, “Given the legislative power over financial allocations, considering the evidence at hand, it seems right to me to withdraw any state funding from her. The citizens of northwest Georgia, and the state as a whole, don’t appreciate their tax money being used for what appears to be political vendettas.”
Reacting to his suspension, Moore stated that he will now dub the GOP Senate caucus as the “RINO caucus”, implying ‘Republican in name only’.
In a message on X, Moore conveyed, “In response to my plea to counteract what I see as unwarranted targeting of Trump, the Georgia RINOs acted impulsively, removing me from the caucus. But I’m steadfast in my stance.”
“I have the unwavering support of the Georgian populace,” Moore asserted. “I perceive this as a paramount battle and will redouble my efforts to uphold justice and righteousness. My focus remains on highlighting the actions of Fani Willis and those who seem to protect her.”
