Is Trump The Best Choice For House Speaker?

Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming expressed doubt about Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio’s potential victory in the upcoming Speakership vote. Speaking at the University of Minnesota, Cheney voiced skepticism regarding the possibility of Republicans backing Jordan for Speaker, suggesting he might not secure the necessary votes.

Despite this, many in the Republican Party have shown support for Jordan, especially after the historic ousting of the previous Speaker, Kevin McCarthy from California. Former Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois believes that Jordan stands a good chance of gaining more votes than House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana, who’s also in the running.

However, Cheney questioned Jordan’s credibility, alluding to his purported involvement in ex-President Donald Trump’s efforts related to the 2020 election outcome. She emphasized Jordan’s supposed knowledge and involvement during the January 6th incident and urged the need to question him about his silence regarding the events of that day.

With the Speaker’s race gaining momentum, new contenders might emerge alongside Jordan and Scalise in the coming days. Interestingly, Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of stepping into the fray, stating he might consider a temporary role as Speaker to unify the GOP.
