Jill Biden Accuses Media And Trump Of What?
Former first lady Jill Biden said she believes the media treated former President Joe Biden differently than it has treated President Donald Trump, arguing that news coverage of the two administrations reflects a double standard.
Speaking during a discussion promoting her memoir, Jill Biden said her husband would have faced much harsher criticism if he had been involved in many of the controversies currently surrounding the Trump administration. She told the audience that she believes the media has not applied the same level of scrutiny to both presidents.
The former first lady also reflected on the Biden administration’s relationship with reporters, saying she wishes the White House had done more to build stronger connections with members of the press. She suggested that more regular engagement could have helped journalists better understand the administration and the people serving in it.
Jill Biden said one of her regrets is that the administration may not have been as open with reporters as it could have been, adding that closer relationships with the media might have changed public perceptions.
The remarks were made during a June 2 appearance at New York’s 92NY while promoting her memoir, View from the East Wing. Video of the discussion has recently gained renewed attention online.
During the event, former President Biden unexpectedly approached the stage near the end of the program and briefly promoted his own upcoming book after being handed a microphone. Jill Biden responded with a lighthearted joke, reminding the audience that the event was intended to focus on her new memoir.
Released in June, View from the East Wing reflects on Jill Biden’s years as first lady, her experiences in the White House, the final chapter of her husband’s presidency, and the events surrounding the 2024 presidential election.
