Secret Service to step up protections For Trump
In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Trump declared his intention to continue holding outdoor rallies despite a recent assassination attempt against him. He also mentioned that the Secret Service has committed to significantly enhancing security measures at these events. Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining the freedom of speech and assembly, stating, “NO ONE CAN EVER BE ALLOWED TO STOP OR IMPEDE FREE SPEECH OR GATHERING!!!”
Details on the new security protocols were not disclosed. This announcement comes amid sharp criticism of the Secret Service following the incident at a rally where a gunman attacked, resulting in one attendee’s death and injuries to two others. The agency’s director, Kimberly Cheatle, resigned following the incident.
The assailant, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was fatally shot after he opened fire at the rally.
Trump also revealed plans to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of the assassination attempt, for another rally to honor Corey Comperatore, a firefighter who lost his life at the event, and the injured individuals. He described the upcoming rally as “big and beautiful” and called for continued fighting spirit.
Amid security concerns, there have been suggestions from the Secret Service to avoid large outdoor gatherings, as reported by The Washington Post citing sources familiar with the matter.
Following the attack, Trump was seen with a bandage on his ear but noted at a recent Turning Point Action event that he has fully recovered, stating, “I’ve recovered well and, in fact, just took off the last bandage off of my ear.”
A Secret Service spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, communicated to The Hill the agency’s commitment to the security of their protectees, although he refrained from discussing specific security strategies or methods.
