Mamdani To Arrest Top Trump Ally

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he would seek the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if the opportunity arose during a future visit to New York, citing the international legal case against the Israeli leader.

Speaking on The New York Times podcast “The Interview,” Mamdani said he believes Netanyahu “belongs in The Hague” and confirmed that his administration is examining what legal authority, if any, the city has if the Israeli prime minister travels to the United Nations in September.

Mamdani said he is engaged in discussions about whether the New York City Police Department could play any role should Netanyahu visit the city. He stressed that any action would have to remain within the bounds of existing law, saying the city would not create new legal authority for that purpose.

The remarks underscore Mamdani’s longstanding criticism of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Throughout his political career, he has been an outspoken supporter of Palestinian causes and has frequently criticized Israeli military operations. Earlier this year, he became the first New York City mayor in more than six decades to skip the city’s annual Israel Day Parade.

Netanyahu remains one of President Donald Trump’s closest international allies. The two leaders have maintained a strong political relationship, working closely on Middle East policy and regional security issues. Trump has repeatedly defended Netanyahu against international criticism and has emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Israel alliance throughout his presidency.

It remains unclear whether Mamdani would have any legal authority to order such an arrest if Netanyahu visits New York, and no official action has been announced beyond the mayor’s statement that his administration is reviewing the issue.
