Pelosi Calls Trump ‘Domestic Enemy’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi labeled former President Donald Trump as a “domestic enemy” in a video recorded the day after the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, which was later featured in an HBO documentary. While preparing for a press conference on January 7, Pelosi, captured on camera in a car with her staffers, discussed her intention to publicly demand the resignation of U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund. She explicitly criticized Trump’s involvement in the events, stating, “There is a domestic enemy in the White House,” as reported by CBS News.

In the video, Pelosi expressed her discontent with Sund’s performance but emphasized that the primary focus should be on the President. She acknowledged a shortfall in security preparedness, admitting, “Shame on us,” according to the New York Post.

In response, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung criticized Pelosi on Newsmax, claiming she declined Trump’s offer to deploy soldiers and the National Guard on January 6, thus questioning her decisions regarding Capitol security.

The HBO footage also captured Pelosi’s reaction to the certification of Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election and her dismay at Trump’s actions that day, stating, “He’s gotta pay a price for that.” Subsequently, Pelosi initiated a subcommittee, which included Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans, to investigate the attack and its precursors.

This footage, part of approximately 50 minutes of unaired material filmed by Pelosi’s daughter, filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, was recently handed over to the Republican-led House Committee on Administration by HBO.
