NBA Fans Mad At Trump For What?
Trump Draws Criticism After Confirming Appearance at NBA Finals
President Trump confirmed he plans to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs, a move that quickly sparked both excitement and criticism.
Speaking with reporters, Trump said Knicks owner James Dolan personally invited him to attend Monday’s game. The president said he was looking forward to seeing the Finals in person after watching New York’s strong start in the championship series.
Trump praised both teams, highlighting Spurs star Victor Wembanyama as one of basketball’s most unique talents.
“I watched the end of the game, and they were dominant,” Trump said. “Wemby’s a great player. He’s already a great player, and he’s only going to get better.”
But not everyone welcomed the president’s plans.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries blasted Trump’s decision, arguing that New Yorkers should be allowed to enjoy the Knicks’ first NBA Finals appearance in decades without political distractions.
“Why does Donald Trump always have to insert himself into everything?” Jeffries said during a television interview. He suggested the president should focus on issues affecting Americans rather than becoming part of the Finals spotlight.
Despite the criticism, the NBA appears eager to embrace the high-profile attendance.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said he hopes Trump’s appearance will highlight the shared excitement surrounding the Finals rather than political divisions.
Silver described the president as a longtime New Yorker and said he welcomed anyone wanting to celebrate the Knicks’ historic postseason run.
Preparations are already underway ahead of Trump’s visit. Reports indicate security teams at Madison Square Garden have conducted extensive walkthroughs and planning sessions in anticipation of the president’s attendance.
The visit comes as Trump continues to draw public attention wherever he appears, ensuring that Game 3 will carry added political interest alongside the championship stakes on the court.
