Romney Calls Trump Not Smart, Is He Right?

Patrick McHenry, a Republican from North Carolina, finds himself unexpectedly in the eye of a tempest concerning the House Speakership — a position he’s not actively seeking but seems to be edging towards him regardless.

The House GOP has been in a leadership quandary for several weeks, unable to settle on a new figurehead. Amidst this, voices within the party have consistently suggested empowering McHenry sufficiently to ensure the House’s smooth operation continues.

“This move allows us, as Republicans, to dial down the intensity surrounding the emotionally charged and challenging task of selecting a new Speaker,” stated Rep. Mike Flood, a Republican from Nebraska.

However, the quest for a new Speaker experienced further twists and turns. Jim Jordan, the House Judiciary Committee Chairman from Ohio, recently withdrew from the race after a triple defeat in floor votes and a subsequent in-house secret ballot where the majority wished for him to bow out.

Consequently, Republicans are slated to reconvene in Washington with an expanded roster of potential Speaker candidates, with McHenry continuing in his role as Speaker pro tem.

Despite the swirling speculation, McHenry has consistently asserted his lack of interest in assuming the role of Speaker.
