Top Pop Star Attacks Trump White House

Pop star Katy Perry is criticizing the White House after one of her biggest hits was used in a social media video featuring footage of U.S. military strikes, saying she never approved the use of the song and strongly objects to how it was presented.

In a post on social media Saturday, Perry said she was “appalled and angry” after discovering that her 2010 hit “Firework” had been used as the soundtrack for a White House TikTok video showing military action.

The singer said she was never contacted for permission and does not support using the song to accompany images of warfare.

Perry explained that she originally wrote “Firework” as an anthem centered on hope, healing and personal resilience for people facing difficult moments in their lives. She argued that pairing the song with footage of military strikes completely contradicts the message she intended the music to convey.

She added that her music is meant to inspire and unite people, not to celebrate violence or armed conflict.
