Trump Posts Reflecting Pool Vandalism Proof
President Trump is once again pointing to alleged vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as pressure grows on the Justice Department to reconsider its decision to drop criminal charges connected to damage at the landmark.
On Saturday, Trump posted photographs appearing to show graffiti and areas where the pool’s surface coating had peeled away. He labeled both images “Vandalism” and used them to reinforce his argument that deliberate damage, rather than problems with the renovation itself, contributed to the condition of the iconic Washington landmark.
The president had already called on U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro to reconsider the decision to abandon the criminal case. Trump urged Pirro on Friday to revisit what he described as a rushed decision.
Pirro’s office has maintained that contractors involved in the Reflecting Pool renovation were responsible for the damage.
Trump, however, has continued to dispute that explanation. In another social media post, he shared a screenshot from X that he said provided evidence supporting his claims of vandalism.
The president argued that the damaged material appeared to have been cut along a lengthy section of the pool, pointing to an area of roughly 300 feet or more. He also claimed that video footage showed individuals working in the water at the same location and that witnesses had observed what happened.
Trump further alleged that portions of the pool’s flexible coating had been deliberately cut with a knife.
The dispute comes after a highly publicized renovation of the Reflecting Pool, which has experienced problems involving its surface and water quality. Trump has previously argued that vandals were responsible for at least some of those issues.
The president has also suggested that fertilizer may have been deliberately introduced into the pool, contributing to algae growth and worsening its appearance.
Another allegation made by Trump involves a long cut in the pool’s coating. He has previously claimed that someone used a box cutter or similar blade to create a nearly 300-foot slash in the material.
The Reflecting Pool has become part of a broader controversy surrounding Trump’s efforts to renovate and reshape major sites around Washington, D.C.
Trump ordered the pool drained and its surface coated in a blue color described as resembling the American flag. The project subsequently became the subject of disputes over the condition of the pool, the work performed by contractors and who should ultimately be held responsible for the problems that followed.
Now, Trump’s renewed focus on the alleged vandalism is putting the Justice Department’s decision back under the spotlight.
The president clearly wants the criminal investigation revived, while federal prosecutors have pointed toward the contractors involved in the renovation when discussing the damage.
Whether Pirro’s office will reconsider the case remains to be seen, but Trump’s latest posts indicate that he is not prepared to let the issue fade away
