Trump says Media is Censoring Conservatives, Is He Right?
During a recent campaign event in Adel, Iowa, State Attorney General Brenna Bird, a Republican, publicly threw her support behind former President Trump, marking herself as the second top official in the state to publicly choose a side in the 2024 Republican primaries.
Addressing an enthusiastic assembly of Trump’s followers, she proclaimed, “We’re in dire need of a leadership change at the helm. It’s an honor to present Donald Trump today, the man committed to fortifying our borders. Who’s with us on this?”
She continued to outline his agenda, stating, “He’s prepared to take on terrorist threats, revitalize our economy, champion agricultural interests, and fiercely defend our Constitution and the American way of life.”
As noted by The Des Moines Register, Bird’s endorsement follows that of Iowa’s State Treasurer Roby Smith, a Republican, who in August showed support for biotech executive Vivek Ramaswamy. Bird’s stance arrives amidst Trump’s efforts to solidify his base in Iowa, especially after facing criticism for his remarks against stringent abortion restrictions, similar to those implemented in Iowa.
In response to the controversy, Iowa’s Governor Kim Reynolds, a Republican, stood firm on her and other leaders’ decisions, including Trump’s potential 2024 competitor, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, to pursue tougher abortion legislation. She asserted, “Safeguarding innocent lives can never be deemed a ‘terrible thing.'”
While Governor Reynolds has not publicly endorsed any candidate for the 2024 Republican primaries, her appearances with DeSantis have reportedly caused tension with Trump.
