Trump Stays In Washington Due To An Emergency
President Trump announced Friday that he will not attend his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding this weekend, explaining that ongoing government responsibilities require him to remain in Washington, D.C.
In a statement shared on social media, the president said he had hoped to celebrate the occasion with his son and future daughter-in-law, Bettina Anderson, but felt it was necessary to stay at the White House during what he described as an important period for the country. He also offered congratulations to the couple and wished them well as they begin married life together.
The decision follows recent scheduling changes that kept the president in the nation’s capital rather than traveling for the weekend. He had previously been expected to spend time at his New Jersey golf property after attending political events in New York.
Earlier in the week, the president acknowledged uncertainty about whether he would be able to attend the ceremony, describing the wedding as a small and private event. He also noted that international and national matters were demanding much of his attention at the moment.
Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson announced their engagement late last year. Anderson is well known in Palm Beach social circles and has worked as a model and philanthropist. The wedding is reportedly taking place in the Bahamas with close family and friends in attendance.
This will be Trump Jr.’s second marriage. He was previously married to Vanessa Trump, with whom he shares five children. Their daughter, Kai Trump, has recently drawn attention for her strong interest in golf, a passion she shares with her grandfather.
Before his engagement to Anderson, Trump Jr. was also engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle, who later took on a diplomatic role after being appointed U.S. ambassador to Greece.
The wedding has attracted public interest due to the high-profile nature of the Trump family, though the ceremony itself is expected to remain relatively private compared to many other political and celebrity events.
