Trump’s Favorite Fox News Host Fired?
Fox News has suddenly parted ways with one of its most familiar faces — and the move is likely to raise eyebrows among viewers who followed the network closely during the Trump years.
The longtime anchor was widely regarded as one of President Donald Trump’s favorite media personalities and became a prominent voice defending his economic and trade policies. Now, after more than a decade at Fox, she is gone.
Maria Bartiromo is leaving Fox News after more than a decade with the network, bringing an abrupt end to her run as one of Fox Business’ most recognizable financial news personalities.
Fox News announced the departure Thursday but offered little explanation for the decision. In a brief statement, the network thanked Bartiromo for her 12½ years of work and wished her well in what comes next.
The announcement came as a surprise because Bartiromo’s regular programming was still airing this week. Her final edition of “Mornings with Maria” aired Thursday morning. Starting Friday, the program will be rebranded as “Mornings with Fox Business” and will use a rotating lineup of anchors rather than immediately naming a permanent replacement.
Another program associated with Bartiromo is also being changed. “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street,” her weekly Fox Business program, will become “FBN’s Wall Street.” Cheryl Casone will host the upcoming edition, with Fox Business expected to use rotating anchors afterward.
Bartiromo’s weekend program, “Sunday Morning Futures,” is also getting a temporary new host. Fox News contributor and former Rep. Jason Chaffetz will take over the program while the network determines who will permanently fill the position.
Bartiromo built a long career covering Wall Street and the financial markets before becoming a prominent television personality. She began her cable news career as a producer at CNN before moving to CNBC, where she spent roughly two decades. She joined Fox Business in 2014 and remained with the network until her departure.
During her years at Fox, Bartiromo became particularly well known for her coverage of President Donald Trump and his administration. She frequently interviewed Trump and other senior officials and was an outspoken defender of many of his economic policies, including his approach to trade.
Her departure therefore marks a notable change for Fox Business, particularly because she had become closely associated with the network’s coverage of markets, the economy and the Trump administration.
For now, Fox has not announced a permanent replacement for any of Bartiromo’s programs. The network’s decision to rely on rotating hosts suggests it may take some time before the long-term lineup becomes clear.
