House Republicans Initiate Official Impeachment Inquiry Against President Biden

The House Republican party has formally introduced a resolution to officially initiate the impeachment inquiry against President Biden, preparing for a comprehensive House vote next week.

This resolution, enabling the impeachment process, follows an announcement by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (Republican-California) in September about the start of the inquiry. This development marks an intensified phase of the investigation, with committee heads ramping up efforts to gather witnesses and documents.

The resolution directs investigative committees to proceed with their investigations as part of the inquiry to determine if there are sufficient grounds for the House of Representatives to impeach Joseph Biden.

A review of the resolution is set for Tuesday.

By officially authorizing the inquiry, House Republicans aim to strengthen the legal foundation of the investigation and improve their capacity to demand evidence, especially in potential legal disputes.

In November, the White House challenged the constitutionality of the House GOP’s impeachment inquiry, arguing it lacked formal approval through a full House vote. This contention influenced the House Republicans’ decision to officially authorize the inquiry.

Although Democrats and the White House have cited earlier statements from Republicans in swing districts and moderates expressing skepticism about impeachment, these GOP members note that approving an inquiry is different from voting on actual impeachment articles.

Reacting to the resolution, the White House condemned the House Republicans for their “stupid stunts,” stating that President Biden remains committed to tackling national issues, while House Republicans pursue publicity through such measures.

The forthcoming House vote on the impeachment inquiry represents a crucial moment in the ongoing political narrative of President Biden’s tenure.
