Trump Urges Overhaul of Republican National Committee
Former President Trump is advocating for a significant overhaul of the Republican National Committee (RNC), particularly if it continues with its primary debates, which Trump has consistently avoided. On his Truth Social platform, Trump celebrated his strong showing in recent polls with a post that included derogatory nicknames for his potential rivals, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
Trump highlighted a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, which indicated that 67% of Republican voters would support him in the GOP presidential primary. In this poll, DeSantis garnered 9%, Haley 8%, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy 5%, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie 3%. Additionally, the poll showed Trump leading President Biden in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, 48% to 41%.
Trump’s message included a caution to the RNC about saving money on debates, which he claims have historically low ratings, and reiterated his baseless claims about the 2020 election being stolen. He called for immediate changes to the RNC if these debates continue.
The Trump campaign has previously urged the RNC to cease hosting primary debates. In September, Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita stated that the focus should be on defeating Biden in the next election, rather than on primary debates that waste time and resources.
Trump has not participated in the last three GOP debates, opting instead for alternative events. His lead in national and early state polls suggests a potential 2024 election rematch between Trump and Biden.
