72 Percent of Republicans Would Be Satisfied With Trump As 2024 Presidential Nominee, Would You Be?
Virginia County Discovers 4,000 Votes Incorrectly Reported from 2020 Election
In Prince William County, Virginia, election officials have recently admitted to a misreporting error affecting approximately 4,000 votes in the 2020 presidential election, which favored former President Trump. According to the county’s Office of Elections, Trump mistakenly gained 2,327 votes, while President Biden was deprived of 1,648 votes. Furthermore, both U.S. Senate candidates and a Republican House candidate who eventually won his race were also impacted by underreported votes.
Eric Olsen, the county’s director of elections, explained that the errors likely stemmed from compatibility issues with the format of the results tapes and state reporting requirements. He noted that these errors did not systematically benefit any one party or candidate, attributing them to a combination of inadequate planning, challenging election conditions, and human error.
Despite these discrepancies, Biden’s victory margin in Virginia exceeded 450,000 votes, and the magnitude of the misreporting did not reach the 1 percent threshold needed for a recount, as per the county office’s statement.
These revelations come in the wake of a 2022 case involving Michele White, the county’s former registrar, who faced charges related to corrupt conduct and other offenses from the 2020 election. These charges have been dismissed, according to the Associated Press.
Olsen emphasized the importance of trust in Virginia’s election systems and highlighted ongoing improvements to prevent such errors in future elections. He reassured that these mistakes were not intentional efforts to compromise electoral integrity and that the investigation concluded without finding any deliberate malfeasance.
