American Kids To Get What On 250th anniversary?
The Social Security Administration announced Wednesday that babies born in the United States during part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration will receive a special commemorative Social Security card.
Under the program, newborns delivered between July 2 and Dec. 31, 2026, will automatically receive a limited-edition Social Security card featuring the official Freedom 250 logo printed in black ink. The commemorative version functions exactly the same as a standard Social Security card and carries no additional legal or administrative differences.
SSA Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said the commemorative card is intended to recognize America’s 250th anniversary while also acknowledging the agency’s more than 90-year history of providing Social Security services.
The special design will only be available for original Social Security cards issued through the agency’s Enumeration at Birth program during the six-month eligibility period. Children born before July 2 or after Dec. 31, 2026, along with anyone requesting a replacement Social Security card, will continue to receive the standard design.
According to the SSA, the commemorative cards will be produced without additional costs to taxpayers or families. Parents do not need to complete any extra paperwork, as eligible newborns will automatically receive the special-edition card through the normal birth registration process.
The initiative is part of Freedom 250, a public-private partnership launched by the Trump administration to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The program is separate from America250, the congressionally established organization created to coordinate nationwide celebrations of the country’s semiquincentennial.
The commemorative Social Security cards are the latest in a series of initiatives introduced by President Donald Trump as part of the anniversary celebration. Recent projects have included limited-edition government-themed memorabilia and other commemorative programs tied to the nation’s 250th birthday.
