Texas Transported Nearly 52,000 Migrants to Key U.S. Cities

Texas has transported nearly 52,000 migrants from its border to six primary cities in the U.S. since 2022.

Since April of that year, the state has used more than 1,130 buses for this purpose, based on information from Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s office, as reported by Axios.

A breakdown of these figures is as follows:

  • Approximately 18,500 migrants were taken to New York City from Texas since August 2022.
  • Around 13,500 were bused to Chicago.
  • An estimated 12,500 went to Washington, D.C.
  • Close to 3,200 were transported to Denver.
  • Another 3,200 were sent to Philadelphia.
  • Roughly 940 were directed to Los Angeles, a city included in the migrant destination list as of June.

Governor Abbott attributed the border challenges to President Joe Biden’s policies, calling the situation a “crisis” and emphasizing its chaotic nature during a visit to New York. He further stated that Texas would persist in using all available means to strengthen border security until the Biden administration takes action, as cited by The Associated Press.

On the other hand, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, after a trip to Latin America, mentioned that NYC has reached its capacity. He expressed that while the city’s compassion is limitless, its resources are finite. Adams emphasized the city’s reluctance to place individuals in group shelters and to give them false employment hopes.
